Waseda University Double Degree Program
プログラム概要

Listed below are the main programs offered by Waseda University. Note) The following rules for tuition fees apply to the students who enrolled after the 1999 academic year. (In case you continued from the undergraduate to the graduate school and from a Master's course to a Doctoral course, the year you promoted to each is considered the academic year.) Please contact your undergraduate/graduate school office if you enrolled prior to the 1998 academic year.

(1)Study Abroad Exchange Program
Exchange Programs under the University-to-University or Inter-Division Agreements
This program is conducted under the agreements among university to university or inter-divisions. In the programs, you study at higher education institutions with the agreements for one year. (Some inter-divisional agreements allow students to study for one term/semester.) Please note that some programs may be designed only for graduate students or, in some cases, only for juniors and above. Students who participate in the exchange programs will have priority in course registration, accommodation arrangements, etc. over other students who study abroad at their own expenses. However, you must start taking regular classes with local students without being offered any language programs. Therefore, you are required to be fluent in a local language. Usually, between one to three students are selected per program.

(2)TSA (Thematic Studies Abroad) Program (only for undergraduate students)
This has been designed only for Waseda students with the curriculums organized based on thematic studies. You are expected to improve your language skills during the early stage of the TSA program. A number of language programs are offered for this purpose.
Around 10 to 30 students are sent to participate in most of the programs;however, this number varies by program. Most programs are offered in North America, United Kingdom, Ireland and Oceania;however, there are programs available in China and Europe.

(3)ISA (Individualized Studies Abroad) Program (only for undergraduate students)
In this program, with the advice from a coordinator at the host university, students may take subjects based on their preferences to some extent from regular subjects of the host university. If your language skills are not sufficient, you may be required to study and improve them.
Usually about 1 to 5 students are sent per program. The number varies by the university.

(4)Double Degree Program (only for undergraduate students)
This program allows you to receive a degree at a prestigious university while you are remained registered at Waseda University, provided you satisfy requirements. Receiving a degree at the university requires you an extremely high level of reading comprehension, listening and communication skill in the local language. The applicants' language skills will be carefully reviewed at the time of screening. >>Double Degree Program

Privately financed students
This means that a student is admitted by the university he/she wishes and studies there by financing tuition fees and living expenses on their own without receiving any scholarships.
In this case, some choose to study a language and some choose to audit classes to earn credits to transfer towards their credits to the home university, which are called Visiting Student or Non-degree Student. Year Abroad Programs in the UK and Diploma programs in Australia are available with TOEFL scores of around 500. It is recommended to contact your school office because your credits earned at the host university may not be transferred towards your credits at Waseda University.
When you study abroad at your expense, the costs vary greatly depending on host countries and institutions. You may spend less than Waseda exchange programs if you study at the host university with low tuition fees. The tuition fees to Waseda University and other expenses may be exempted for a maximum of one year while studying overseas, provided you are registered as "studying abroad" at Waseda University. Please note that some of the exempted fees should be paid at the time of graduation if you are to graduate within prescribed year (four years for undergraduate students). The half amount of the tuition fees and maintenance fees should be paid if you study abroad beyond one year.

Studying abroad on a Scholarship
This mainly applies to graduate students. Students who have been successfully selected for the scholarship by the foreign government or a private foundation and also admitted to the university they wish to enter are categorized as this group.
