Waseda University Double Degree Program
プログラム概要

Listed below are the main programs offered by Waseda University.

(1)Exchange programs (one year or one semester)
Exchange Programs are conducted under university-wide or departmental bilateral agreements. Under an exchange program, you study at a partner university for one academic year. (Some programs and departmental agreements allow their students to study for one semester.) Please note that some programs have restrictions on student intake: only 3rd year undergraduate students or above, and graduate students may be considered eligible. Exchange students are often accorded priority in course registration, accommodation arrangements, etc. over other students who study abroad at their own expense. In most cases, however, you must start taking regular classes with local students without being offered any language programs. Therefore, you are required to be fluent in a local language. Usually, between one to three students are selected per program.

(2)TSA (Thematic Studies Abroad) programs (only for undergraduate students)
TSA programs have been designed specially for Waseda students, and curriculums are centered on thematic studies. One of the unique features of the TSA program is the support provided to improve the students' language proficiency.
Although the student quota varies by program, most programs have 10 to 30 students participating. Such programs are offered in North America, United Kingdom, Ireland, Oceania, China, and Europe.

(3)ISA (Individualized Studies Abroad) Program (only for undergraduate students)
In the ISA programs, with the advice from a coordinator at the host university, you may enjoy some freedom to take regular courses of your host university. You are required to take language courses if your language proficiency is not adequate for such courses. The student quota for each program varies.

(4)Double Degree Program
The double degree program allows you to receive a degree from a prestigious overseas university as well as from Waseda University, on condition that you satisfy all program and degree requirements of both universities. Receiving a degree from one of these universities requires an extremely high level of the academic skills in the local language: reading comprehension, listening apprehension, and speaking. Your language proficiency will be carefully reviewed at the time of screening at Waseda University. In 2010 academic year, double degree programs have been organized for undergraduate students at the following universities: Peking University, Fudan University, National Taiwan University and National University of Singapore. Some programs are only open to specific students. >>Double Degree Program

Privately funded students
Students who fall in this category are admitted to an overseas university and they pay the tuition and other academic fees and living expenses on their own without receiving any scholarships. Students in this category may go abroad with the sole objective of language learning; alternatively, they may assume the status of "visiting student" or "non-degree student". Please note that it is possible that credits earned abroad may not be accreditated by Waseda University. It is therefore essential that you confirm all details with respect to credit accreditation with your school office.
Further, tuition and other academic fees will be handled differently for privately funded students, depending on their registration status.

Studying abroad on a scholarship
This applies mainly to graduate students. You must be selected for a scholarship by the foreign government or a private foundation and then admitted to your respective overseas universities.
