■California State University (CSU)
California State University is the nation's largest university system, with 23 campuses. The oldest campus was founded in 1857 and is located in San Jose. The most recent addition to the university is the campus found on the Channel Islands which opened in 2002.
Stretching from Humboldt in the north, to San Diego in the south, each of the 23 campuses has its own geography and environmental conditions in addition to having its own unique identity, student populations and programs.
CSU offers more than 1,800 bachelor's and master's degree programs and opportunities in 240 subject areas. It is also the nation's most diverse university system. At CSU you will experience all aspects and people that comprise contemporary American society.
In Japan the CSU system is often confused with the UC (University of California) system. Both CSU and UC are the State's Higher Education institutions. The UC system was created as a research university institution, while CSU is the state's premier undergraduate teaching institution.

■Great Lakes Colleges Association,Inc./ Associated Colleges of the Midwest(GLCA / ACM)
After World War II, it was recognized that it was important for people with different cultural backgrounds to understand each other for the maintenance of peace. With an awareness of this importance, GLCA / ACM started a student exchange program with Waseda University in 1962 when the International Division was established. It was started by a liberal arts private college consortium in Midwest to provide American college students with opportunities to study in Japan.
Since the inception of this program 40 years ago, every year an average of about 25 Waseda University students study abroad to GLCA / ACM campuses. Not withstanding the size and scale of liberal art colleges, the GLCA / ACM plays a great role as universities in the U.S. with many graduates of GLCA / ACM playing active roles in international organizations, such as diplomats, business people, researchers, international lawyer as well as other prestigious positions. The former U.S. Ambassador, Mr. E.O.Reischauer, Mr. M.H.Armacost and an former Vice-president, Mr. W.F.Mondale who was Mr. Armacost's successor are all graduates of GLCA/ACM.
GLCA/ACM students are highly concerned with international issues with many having studied abroad in various countries. Studying abroad does not only mean learning foreign languages but also it confronts students with major challenges - how to communicate with people who speak different languages and with different cultural background. Exchange students get to know themselves, their own culture and position of their own country in the world through the exchange program.
Waseda students start their preparation for the exchange program 6 months before their departure. At this point, exchange students start to be regarded as a student of GLCA/ACM and need to acknowledge that they have started "studying abroad", including their preparation period. GLCA/ACM organizes orientation meetings twice a month in preparation for life in the U.S. and plans a camp with GLCA/ACM students in May, assisting program application procedures. GLCA/ACM program fee includes tuition fee at U.S. campuses.

■Oregon University System (OUS)
OUS is a consortium of public universities in the State of Oregon. Each university is unique in terms of its size, on-campus life style, atmosphere, and key academic disciplines. There is a suitable learning environment for every student! OUS institutions value the presence of international students on their campuses, and each university has its own international office to provide assistance and advising for exchange students.
The Oregon Japan Study Center, located on the Waseda University campus, coordinates the exchange program between the OUS institutions and Waseda. The Center conducts orientations and provides support both for OUS and Waseda students, before, during and after their participation in the program. The Program Associate at the Oregon Japan Study Center organizes a number of activities, such as field trips, group meals, and other cultural events where Waseda and OUS students can establish friendships that will continue throughout their time at Waseda, and in Oregon.
[Waseda students may choose to study at one of the following universities]
Eastern Oregon University
Oregon State University
Portland State University
