| Global Honors College Summer Program Guidelines for Applicants |
Center for International Education (CIE) is offering the Global Honors College Summer Program in cooperation with Harvard University, Columbia University, Yale University, University of Washington (Seattle), National University of Singapore, Peking University and Korea University. The purpose of this program is searching for solutions to global problems through discussion among participating academic staff and students based on the theme of "Environment and Sustainability". Please read the following guidelines for applicants carefully. We look forward to your participation.
1. Program title "Environment and Sustainability-Global College Subject-" The subject is offered by CIE (2 credits). As for credit recognition, please inquire at your school.
2. Period 27 July - 14 August, 2009 (The program period will overlap with the first semester. We will make an adjustment with your school office during the screening so that it will not affect taking classes and exams.)
3. Program schedule (tentative) (camp-style(合宿) program throughout the whole period)

4. Program participants (1) 3 undergraduates from Waseda University (2) 21 students from overseas participating universities ( 3 students x 7 universities)
5. Lecturers: Academic staff from 8 universities jointly supervise. The lecturers listed below are scheduled to participate at this time. However, the participating lecturers are subject to change.

6. Application requirements (1) Those who have sufficient English skill to have a high-level discussion. (2) Those who are enthusiastic about addressing global problems. (3) Those who can participate in the program from the beginning to the end. (It will be a camp-style (合宿)program.) (4) Those who are regular undergraduate students at Waseda University as of 1 April, 2009. (5) Participation in this program must not affect taking regular classes. (CIE will make an adjustment with your school office during the screening so that it will not affect taking regular classes and exams.)
7. How to apply Please submit the following documents to CIE office. (1) Essay on the reason why you would like to participate in the program Based on your past experiences, write what you would like to work on or learn through the program (A4・1 page) (2) Latest academic transcript (in English) (3) In principle, original valid score sheet of TOEFL or IELTS (The score from the official exam, such as TOEIC, Eiken, is also acceptable.) (4) Recommendation letter written by a full-time member of faculty at Waseda University (free form, either in English or Japanese) (5) Application Form <WORD>(designated form)
8. Program fees The following will be paid by the university. (1) Accommodation fees for 3 weeks (2) Meal expenses while staying in Hayama (only at the designated restaurant) (3) Round-trip transfers between Waseda and Hayama (by chartered bus) (4) Tuition fees for the program * Expenses, such as lunch while studying at Waseda Campus, are the responsibility of the individual.
9. Screening Schedule (1) Application deadline: At 17:00 on 25 May, 2009 (Monday) (2) Place to submit: CIE office (person in charge: Honjo) 4th floor, No. 22 building, Waseda Campus (3) Screening: All the application documents will be evaluated, and those who pass the first screening will have an interview exam. The interview is scheduled on 30 May, 2009 (Saturday). (4) Announcement of successful candidates: The result will be notified on 3 June, 2009 (Wednesday).
