A student visa is issued for those who would like to stay in Japan for the purpose of studying or doing research. You need to get a permission through Waseda University and from the Immigration Bureau if you want to engage in other activities than studying. For further information, please see here. |

| Q2. My visa is going to expire soon. What steps are necessary to extend the visa? |
Those who hold a student visa are permitted to stay in Japan for a period of one or two years. If you want to extend the period of your stay, you must apply to the Immigration Bureau before the expiry date or two months prior to the expiry date and renewal the period.

| Q3. I'm going to leave Japan temporarily to go back home country (or traveling). What is necessary? |
You need to apply for a Re-entry Permit at the Immigration Bureau.
If you do not, you must apply for a visa again at the Japanese diplomatic office.
You can obtain the application form at the Immigration Bureau and the Center for International Education as well. For further information, please see here. For those who receive a government sponsored scholarship or a short-term studying abroad scholarship offered by JASSO, please submit "a leaving Japan report" at the relevant office before your departure. |

| Q4. My Visa will expire at the same time I graduate but I would like to stay an additional week or two to make the appropriate preparation to return to my country. What should I do? |

Please apply for a Change of Status of Residence for a short-term visa at the Immigration Bureau. The application form can be downloaded from the Immigration Bureau's website. Also, you can obtain the form at the Center for International Education. Depending on your purpose, the documents to be submitted will vary. Again, please consult the Immigration Bureau. |

| Q5. I would like to change my visa status from a Family Visa to a Student Visa. What should I do? |

| Q6. Can I apply for any scholarships while studying at Waseda University? |

Yes, you can. However, the scholarships Waseda University provides are mostly for privately financed students who hold a student visa. The Scholarships and Financial Assistance Section deals with scholarships except for students recruited abroad, which is conducted by each undergraduate/graduate school office. Information regarding past scholarships may be obtained bigining on p.116 of "International Students' Handbook". |

| You can get the card from the card-issuing machine on each campus. |

| Q11. Do you issue graduation diplomas in English? |
Waseda University doesn't issue graduation diplomas in English.
Please ask your school office to issue a certificate of graduation in English, if you need one to go on to school or for a job application. |

I'd like to look for a language partner. Where should I look? |
You can use the ICC's language exchange program to find a language partner. Further information about the ICC's language exchange program can be found here.
If you'd like to search for a language partner by yourself, you can post an advertisement on the bulleting board in the student lounge on level 3, Building No. 22.

| Q13. I'd like to participate in extracurricular activities (e.g. a home stay program) during long vacations. Do you offer any of such activities? |
| The information on various extracurricular activities such as home stay programs will be posted on the bulletin board of the Center for International Education (4th floor at Bldg. #22) and also on the web page of "Life at Waseda". The information is updated regularly. |

| Q14. I would like to undertake an internship during my university studies. Where can I get more information? |
| Waseda University’s Carrer Center assists students in finding internships. For more information, contact the Career Center located on level 3, Student Center Building. Also, internship information for international students can be found on the bulletin board on level 4, Building 22. |

| Q15. I have to go back to my country to do military service. What is my status going to be while I'm away? |
| Please contact the admissions coordinator at your graduate or under graduateschool. |

| Q16. Can international students join university clubs? How can I contact them? |
| There are club rooms at Waseda University Student Center on Toyama Campus. You can visit here to check a list of those clubs. Reference books of those clubs ("Milestone Express") are available at the Center for International Education. If you are interested in any clubs, please contact them directly . |

Does Waseda University offer support for Waseda University international students before graduation in the case that they would like to work in Japan after graduation? |
At Waseda University, all students, whether are international students or Japanese students can go to the Career Center for support in finding a job prior to graduation. Also, every year the Career Center holds numerous information sessions for international students who are interested in working in Japan.
You can also reference the Career Forum. Net which is a bilingual website for those interested in working in Japan. Please use this forum's general information and employment opportunities information.
