【To Graduate Students】
Double Degree Programs for graduate students are limited to students of specific graduate schools. Waseda students interested in participating in the DDP should confirm which graduate schools are applicable and contact the respective graduate school office for relevant information.
What language skill level is necessary to participate in the DDP?
A1:
Classes taught at Peking University, Fudan University and the National Taiwan University are primarily in Chinese, while classes at the National University of Singapore (NUS) are conducted in English. As a general rule, the host university will not provide language courses to Waseda students on the DDP. Students from Waseda University that participate in these programs must have a very advanced level of Chinese (or English for NUS) language ability.
Q2:
Why do I need to submit a certificate of English language skills for programs in Chinese-speaking countries for Waseda's internal selection?(Some programs exempt.)
A2:
English skills may be necessary due to some required courses being conducted in English, depending on the program. Please submit TOEFL (any of: iBT、CBT、PBT、or ITP), TOEIC, or EIKEN scores taken within the past two years for your certificate of English language skills.
※ The Waseda University CO-OP offers the TOEFL-ITP exam. For this year's schedule, check their homepage. Please register directly with the Waseda University CO-OP.
Q3:
I heard that you must turn in the HSK (Level 5) to National Taiwan University, but is that true? When do I have to submit it by?
A3:
One of the requirements for receiving a bachelor's from National Taiwan University is to fulfill one of the two following requirements by the time you graduate from Waseda University: submitting the HSK (Level 5) OR passing National Taiwan University's own Chinese language proficiency test (only available while studying abroad at National Taiwan University).
Q4:
Please tell me more about the details regarding National Taiwan University's own Chinese language proficiency test.

Degree
Q1:
When will the host university degree be conferred? Also, what happens if you participate in the DDP but cannot finish the entire program as designated by the host university?
A1:
Generally, the host university's degree is conferred after studying abroad at the host university for a designated time period, completing the required program, and successfully graduating from your faculty at Waseda University. Also, if you cannot finish the program designated by the host university for any reason, you will be treated as an exchange student and will not be conferred a degree.
Q2:
If I drop out of Waseda University after participating in the DDP, will I be conferred a degree from the host university?
A2:
If you drop out of Waseda University, you will no longer fulfill the requirements for acquiring a degree from the host university and will not be conferred a degree.
Q3:
What is the difference between the 2nd degree awarded through Peking University's DDP and the Bachelor's degree awarded through Fudan University's DDP?
A3:
In some Chinese universities, there is a program of a set time period that gives opportunities to undergraduate students to study outside of their specialized field. And if they complete such a program, they are conferred a 「双学士学位」 which is equivalent to a 学士学位. For example, if an undergraduate student majoring in Literature at Peking University was to take courses from the 双学位program for Finance and complete both their major in Literature and the 双学位program for Finance at the same time, Peking University will confer two official学位証書for both the学士学位 for Literature and 双学位学士 for Finance. The双学位課程 is a special program aimed to developed human resource with a diverse knowledge base, and is different from double majors or minors.
On the other hand, a学士学位 conferred by Fudan University to Waseda University students who have completed the DDP program at Fudan University and have fulfilled all requirements for their own department at Waseda University is a学士学位 given to international (study abroad) students studying at Fudan University that have completed the regular 正規学士program.
Study abroad duration
1 year for Peking University and Fudan University, 1.5 years at National Taiwan University, and 2 years as a general rule for NUS (but by taking the summer term, you may be able to shorten it to 1.5 years).
Waseda University's internal selection
※For internal selection information, please check the CIE homepage for the most recent information.
Q1:
As applicants to the DDPs held in Chinese must take the 中国語レベル判定試験, are past exam questions available for viewing?
A1:
Past questions are not disclosed. Use the day of the exam as an opportunity to test your Chinese language ability.
Q2:
Please tell me about the interview format (language, interviewer etc.)
A2:
Such information cannot be given out.
Field/Courses to be taken at the host university
Q1:
Can you take subjects outside each program's designated courses?
A1:
No. The field of study at the host university is already set. (Example: At Fudan University, subjects related to journalism must be taken.). However, NUS allows you to choose from several majors. You must choose which major you would like to pursue before going abroad. For more details, see Q3 of this section.
Q2:
Does my specialization at the host university have to be the same as my specialization at Waseda University?
A2:
It does not necessarily have to be the same. There are some past DDP students who have elected to study different fields while at their host university. They most likely wanted to expand their knowledge by venturing to study a different major at their host university. However, should you choose a different specialization, there may be an effect on credit transfers to your faculty in Waseda University. This will have an impact on whether you will be able to graduate from your faculty within 4 years, so please make sure to carefully check your course requirements and credits before submitting your application.
Q3:
It says that the specialization at NUS is "Arts and Social Sciences or Science (your choice)"...what does that mean?
A3:
Firstly, please carefully read the Program Overview for the NUS DDP program. Once you have passed the internal selection and have obtained NUS program candidate status, you must submit a Study Plan (format designated by NUS) indicating which of the two majors you would like to take at NUS (Faculty of Arts and Social Science or Faculty of Science). For majors that Waseda University students can take at each faculty, please check the NUS syllabus from the URL provided in the NUS Program Overview. (Not all majors in each faculty are open to Waseda University students. Also, please note that available majors/subjects may change yearly.) In addition, know that the submitted Study Plan plays a major role in NUS's decision of whether to accept a Waseda University student into the program.
Q4:
Can I take language courses at my host institution?
A4:
As a general rule, you cannot. The DDP does not include language courses at host universities.
(Fudan University is an exception.)
Degree requirements for the host university
Q1:
I heard that there are Waseda University courses that Waseda students must take if they participate in the DDP...can you tell me more?
A1:
For Peking University and Fudan University, you will have to take certain Waseda University courses as designated by each university. As a general rule, you will need to take such courses before going study abroad to your host university. (If the designated courses are not offered in your faculty, you will have to take them at another faculty). The CIE will provide you with more details once you have been formally accepted as a program candidate.

Q1:
Should I pay tuition and other academic fees to Waseda University or to the host university during my study abroad as a Double Degree Program participant?
A1:

All Waseda participants in the Double Degree Programs must pay an additional registration fee before studying abroad.
There is a one-time registration fee for all programs. State of your enrollment and tuition fee treatment
